Coach Beyond’s Online Supporting Student-Athlete Mental Health Training

This Coach Beyond course developed by LiFEsports at the Ohio State University is designed to increase awareness of student-athletes wellness needs and common signs and symptoms of mental health concerns. Participants attending this training will learn practical strategies to integrate into their daily practices and resources to link and refer student-athletes to mental health supports in their schools and communities. 

Coach Beyond’s Student-Athlete Trainings

Coach Beyond is proud to offer the Life and Leadership Through Sport Series, a six-session series on developing life and leadership skills for high school student-athletes. Each session focuses on a specific skill or topic and includes several interactive elements, including small group discussions, games, and homework prompts. The six session topics are listed below along with their specific learning objectives.

Coach Beyond Webinar: Coaching through Crisis

Join Dr. Samantha Bates as she sits down with Dr. Sharon Hoover (University of Maryland), Tony Dixon (Dayton Dunbar High School), and Dr. John Ackerman (Nationwide Children's Hospital) to discuss how coaches can support their student-athletes who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or a loss.

Athlete Mental Health Legislation

  • Ohio House Bill 33

    • Tucked into House Bill 33, Ohio’s budget bill, is a provision requiring all coaches to undergo mental health training. The goal is to help them identify students who are struggling, find them the help they may need, and hopefully, prevent them from hurting themselves or anyone else.
